Men's Volleyball Starts Conference Play 2-0
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University Men’s Volleyball team came out 2-0following their wins over Oakland City and Rio Grande. The Bearcats improved their record to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in River States Conference play.

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University Men's Volleyball team came out 2-0 following their wins over Oakland City and Rio Grande. The Bearcats improved their record to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in River States Conference play.
The Bearcats started the weekend with their home opener on Friday night against Oakland City. The receiving votes (RV) Mighty Oaks were no match for the Bearcats as they took the match in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-21. Tuna Konukcu led BU with nine kills as Mustafa Yildiz ended with seven. Joaquin Palacios had an impressive night with six kills and eight total blocks.
Following their win over OCU, the Bearcats played on back-to-back days as they hosted Rio Grande in a late afternoon contest. BU started out on an early 11-5 run over the RedStorm. Rio rallied back to get within one of the Bearcat lead. A kill by Owen Collitt and an ace by Can Acis put the Bearcats up two in set one. A RedStorm attack error sealed the set one win with a final score of 25-23. Rio Grande took an early 4-2 advantage until the Bearcats surged out on a 6-1 run. Back-to-back kills gave the Bearcats a three-point lead and eventually the set as they took a two-set advantage.
Rio Grande managed a comeback in set three as they cut the set lead in half with a 25-21 win. The Bearcats closed out the match with a 25-23 set four win to take the match 3-1.
Owen Collitt led the Bearcats with 10 kills on 16 attempts as Joaquin Palacios followed with nine.
The Bearcats will host St. Mary of the Woods for another conference matchup this coming Friday, Feb. 28, at 6pm.
