Volleyball Drops a Pair of Conference Matches on the Road
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women’s volleyball team picked up a pair of conference losses to Rio Grande and WVU Tech on the road this past weekend. They extend their record to 1-15 overall and 0-8 in RSC play.

Game 1: Rio Grande 3 Brescia 0
The Lady Bearcats were playing confidently at the start of set one as they took on the Red Storm of Rio Grande. Kills by Jasmin Jones and Cetera Warren would get the Bearcats on board early as they try to spot the holes in the Red Storm defense. It wasn't long until Rio started doing the same to the Bearcat defense as they scored four unanswered points to take the lead, 9-5. The Red Storm managed to take advantage of BU errors as they continued on another five-point streak. Ultimately, the Red Storm would walk away with set one, 25-12, as the Bearcats try to regain their momentum for set two.
Despite Rio taking the five-point lead to start set two, the Bearcats were able to battle back getting within two points of the lead. BU would take advantage of Rio's errors as they continued to strive for the lead. Two service aces by Kaitlyn Orange would knot the score at 12 apiece for the teams as the set inches closer to the end. After plenty of point trading, the Bearcats finally took the lead by one on a kill from Cetera Warren. It wouldn't last long as the Red Storm fired back to take set two, 25-18.
Down two sets to none, the Bearcats would fall early to an 8-2 deficit in set three. The girls did not waiver to the Red Strom's offense as they crawled back to knot the score at 12 then take the lead on a kill from Cheaney Archer. BU fought against Rio down to the final point but could not finish as Rio Grande took the third and final set, 25-21.
Cetera Warren led the team with 10 kills while Cheaney Archer assisted 14 times.
Game 2: WVU Tech 3 Brescia 0
At the start of set one against the Golden Bears, WVU Tech would take a six-point advantage. The Bearcats struggled to put points up on the board as the Golden Bears would take set one significantly, 25-10. Set two would see improvement for the Bearcats as they looked to comeback from an 12-3 deficit. A few kills and attack errors from the Golden Bears would get BU within six of the lead. The Golden Bears would see a halt on points as the Bearcats would surge on a eight-point run to cut the lead down to four. The Bearcats were unable to complete the comeback in set two as WVU Tech takes a two-set advantage.
In set three, the Bearcats would take advantage of attacking errors by the Golden Bear defense as they trade points on the board. BU would eventually take the lead on a kill by Katie Fitzgerald to set the score at 13-12. WVU Tech would take back the lead on multiple kills to take the set, 25-20
Kaitlyn Orange led the Bearcats in kills with 6 while Cheaney Archer followed closely behind with 5 kills and 13 assists.
The Bearcats take the floor again this Saturday at Ohio Christian for another RSC matchup starting at 6 pm CT.
