Women's Volleyball Weekend Recap at Showdown in the Woods

TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Brescia University women’s volleyball team falls to 0-5 on the season after a rough go at Showdown in the Woods. The Lady Bearcats dropped all four matches to their opponents.

TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Brescia University women's volleyball team falls to 0-5 on the season after a rough go at Showdown in the Woods. The Lady Bearcats dropped all four matches to their opponents.

Match 1: Brescia vs Boyce, L 3-0

The Bearcats would face the Boyce College Bulldogs to kick off the tournament. Boyce would start on a 3-0 run against the Bearcats in set one, but BU was able to rebuttal with three points of their own. The teams would trade points until the Bearcats broke free for a six-point run to give them the lead 15-14. The Lady Bearcats continued to battle with the Bulldogs but would fall short as Boyce took set on, 25-21

In set two, the Bearcats would start out strong but would quickly falter as the Bulldogs would go on a 15-9 run. BU could not find their footing for a comeback as Boyce took set two, 25-16. Much like set two, the Bulldogs would defeat the Bearcats with another 25-16 set in the third and final set of the match.

Cheaney Archer would lead the Bearcats with five kills in 17 attempts and 11 assists.

Match 2: Brescia vs Goshen, L 3-0

In the second match of the day, the Bearcats would take on the Leafs of Goshen College. Goshen would jump out to an 8-4 lead at the start of set one, but the Bearcats would not concede as they claw their way back to knot the score at 15. BU was one point away from victory until Goshen would dig deep to pull out the close win 28-26.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats would drop sets two (25-14) and three (25-21) to fall 0-2 on day one of Showdown of the Woods.

Jasmin Jones led the team with 10 kills in 14 attempts while Cheaney Archer led with 16 assists.

Match 3: Brescia vs Kalamazoo, L 3-0

Day two of the tournament showed better potential for the Bearcats as they competed against Kalamazoo and conference opponent, Saint Mary of the Woods. In set one against Kalamazoo, the Bearcats and Hornets seemed equally matched as both teams would trade points on the scoreboard. However, the 2-2 Hornets would walk away with set one in hand with a score of 25-21. The Bearcats would continue to battle against KC but would drop sets two and three 25-20 and 25-23.

Jasmin Jones continues to lead the team in kills with seven in 19 attempts while Cheaney Archer assists 14 times.

Match 4: Brescia vs SMWC, L 3-0

The Pomeroys of Saint Mary of the Woods were not as forgiving to the Bearcats as Kalamazoo as SMWC set the tone in set one with a 25-15 win. The Bearcats did not waiver easily as they made a comeback in set two. Unfortunately, the Pomeroys would walk away with the win 25-20 and gain the 2-0 set advantage. The Bearcats struggled to comeback as the Pomeroys would take set three, 25-11.

Cetera Warren and Kaitlyn Orange both led the team with four kills.

The Bearcats will return to the court in Midway, KY as they start conference play against the Eagles of Midway University.
