OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women's basketball team defeated the IU East Red Wolves at home this past Friday, 69-59. The Lady Cats improved their record to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in RSC play.
The Lady Bearcats continued their hot streak following their win over the 4-3 Red Wolves of IU East. BU opened with a 16-point first quarter as Brooklyn Stewart led the charge with seven points. Jenna Krampe became the facilitator in the second frame as she assisted on a Stewart layup and two Kassady London threes on consecutive possessions. Despite being up 10 with six minutes to play, the Red Wolves chipped away at the lead while keeping the Bearcats scoreless the remainder of the quarter.
Down three, Kassady London sank her third triple of the game to tie the game for BU. Brescia forced an IUE timeout as they opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run. Shelbie Beatty returned from injury last week and immediately made an impact. With two and a half minutes left, she got the defensive board and came down to sink a three on the other end. The Red Wolves moved to a zone defense, where Jenna Krampe thrives, as she earned eight of her 14 points in the paint. The Bearcats commanded the lead in the fourth quarter as they picked up their sixth conference win.
Brooklyn Stewart led with 17 points and seven rebounds as Jenna Krampe followed with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
