Lady Cats Erase 11-Point Deficit to Beat Vikings

After a close five-point loss to the #24 team in the nation, the Lady Cats faced a visiting Viking team that is 4-4 on the season. Missouri Valley College lit up the scoreboard first with back-to-back layups. Hailee Johnson knotted the score at six for the first of six ties in the game. Each team shared the shooting struggled in the first quarter as the Vikings ended with a two-point lead over BU. Graci Risley did what she did best and nailed a three from the corner to tie the score at 19. The Vikings answered right back with a shot from distance to retake the lead. Ja'Mesha Brown, who has made an immediate impact off the bench the last few games, gave the Bearcats their only lead of the first half on a fast break steal and basket.
Following the break, the Vikings made two consecutive threes to take an 11-point advantage. The Lady Cats turned up the heat defensively picking up the MVC offense at half court. BU forced five turnovers in the third as they continued to chip away at the deficit, keeping the Vikings scoreless for the final four minutes. Brooklyn Stewart began to give the Bearcats momentum, scoring eight of their 18 points. Stewart also regained the lead for BU on her last second jumper on the pass from Jenna Krampe. An eight-point fourth quarter by Cassidy Morris capped the Bearcats highest scoring quarter of the game. An and-1 layup by Jenna Krampe on the back cut was the momentum shifter as the Bearcats took a two-point lead. BU kept that lead at that point in the quarter as they steal the win 63-56 over the Vikings.
Stewart led all scorers with 14 points with eight of them coming at the charity stripe. Krampe and Morris combined for 19 points and 15 boards. Tamia Yates added a generous six boards and points off the bench for the Bearcats.
The Lady Cats will head to Lawrence, Kansas on Tuesday, Dec. 9 to take on Haskell at 7pm.
