MIDWAY, KY – The Brescia University women's volleyball team kicked off conference play against the Eagles of Midway. The Lady Bearcats dropped the contest in three sets to extend their conference record 0-1.
The Bearcats would start out strong as they were able to top the Eagles in the first four points of the first set. Midway would soon find their footing and go on a 10-0 run to give them a substantial lead. BU would only put up 14 points in set one as Midway takes the one set advantage. The Bearcats would see some improvement in set two but could not convert the second set as they dropped set two, 25-16.
With the possibility of Midway walking away with all three sets, the Bearcats showed some fight in set three. BU stuck along side of the Eagles as both teams would trade points throughout the set. The Bearcats would pull away as they take a 9-5 lead on a kill from Katie Fitzgerald. The Bearcats could not slam the door on the Eagles in set three as Midway slowly but surely worked their way back to take set three, 28-26.
Kaitlyn Orange led the team with five kills while Cheaney Archer led with nine assists and 13 digs.
The Bearcats will take the court in Columbia, KY as they take on Lindsey Wilson. For the latest updates on the BU women's volleyball team, follow @BUVball on socials or visit BresciaBearcats.com.
