Lady Cats Sweep St. Mary of the Woods
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women’s basketball team cruised by St. Mary of the Woods for the second time this season, 75-42. The Lady Cats remain at the top of the West Division in the River States Conference and improve their overall record to 16-5 and RSC record to 7-2.

BU settled for the three balls in the first quarter and shot just 23% from the field while the Pomeroys took a 12-10 lead. The Lady Cats woke up offensively, started by a bomb from Graci Risley beyond the arc. The 9-0 run by the Bearcats gave way to a 19-7 second quarter as the defense kept SMWC to just three made shots. Graci Risley and Brooklyn Stewart each tabbed six points in the first half as BU held a 10-point advantage.
The Lady Cats were fired up after and and-1 contact lay from Caroline Lucas. Lucas surged for nine points in the third quarter on 100% shooting. It wasn't just an individual effort in the quarter as the BU defense forced nine turnovers and allowed just 10 points for SMWC. Shelbie Beatty, returning from injury, didn't miss a beat as she erupted for 11 points in the fourth quarter with three three-pointers. Each quarter got better for the Bearcats as they continued to add more to their total. Overall, Beatty led all scorers with 17 points and five threes while three other Bearcats reached double figures (Caroline Lucas, Brooklyn Stewart, and Graci Risley). Stewart totaled four blocks in the win showing her defensive presence while Cassidy Morris pulled down 10 boards.
The Lady Cats will travel to Grayson, KY to take on Kentucky Christian at 12pm.
