Softball Grabs First Sweep of the Season Over Point Park
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team swept Point Park yesterday in their RSC doubleheader. The Lady Bearcats took game one with a final score of just 1-0 in the low hit contest while game two needed an extra inning to get the win, 4-3. BU extended their record to 5-20 overall and 4-14 in conference play.

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team swept Point Park yesterday in their RSC doubleheader. The Lady Bearcats took game one with a final score of just 1-0 in the low hit contest while game two needed an extra inning to get the win, 4-3. BU extended their record to 5-20 overall and 4-14 in conference play.
Game one: Bearcats 1 Pioneers 0
In just the five-hit battle, the Bearcats were able to squeak out a run in the bottom of the first inning. Berlyn Uken started the Bearcats off with a single blooped to left field. Kaylyn Sowders singled up the middle to score the speedy Uken from first base to plate the Bearcats one and only run. Lindsey Peyton would go 2-for-3 on the day with two doubles and a stolen base. Hannah Hailey put on a pitching masterclass in the circle as she one hits the Pioneers in a complete game shutout with four strikeouts and just two walks.
Game two: Bearcats 4 Pioneers 3
In game two of the day, the Bearcats needed a little extra time to get the bats rolling in the win. BU won the second inning as they pushed two runs across on two costly errors by the Pioneer defense. Point Park began to put the ball in play as a single to left field started their one run inning. A sacrifice bunt pushed a runner to third and into scoring position. The sacrifice fly to centerfield would plate the Pioneer's first run of the day as they cut the Bearcat lead in half. BU's runs stopped in the third inning as the Pioneers played catch up. Point Park knotted the score at three apiece after they managed two runs in two innings. Raini Gerometta kept the Pioneers scoreless in the final two innings once in the circle as the game headed to the 8th inning. Courtney Peyton, after fouling off the first pitch, got a pitch to hit that ended the game on her solo shot to left center.
The Bearcat pitching staff combined for two strikeouts, four walks, and just one earned run as Gerometta grabbed the win.
The Lady Bearcats return to their home field (Kamuf Park) for another conference doubleheader against the visiting Trailblazers of Ohio Christian starting at 2pm CT.
