Six Run Season Bests at Fast Cats Classic
The Brescia women's cross country team hosted the Fast Cats Classic on October 9th at Yellow Creek Park, placing tenth as a team.
"I thought the meet went well today on the women's side. The final time oesn't always tell the whole story about the race. The team responded well within the race and started to make some of the in-race adjustments that they needed to, which is something I like to see as we get closer to Conference," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
Abagale Huelsman (SO, Fort Branch, Ind.) led the way for the young Brescia team, finishing the 5k in 21:08 and placing 33rd. Sophia Warthen (FR, Elizabethtown, Ky.) was the next Bearcat to finish the race, crossing the finish line in 22:03.
Sheyenna Stytz (FR, Ledbetter, Ky.) finished third for the team, running 23:57.
Raegan Halley (SO, McLeansboro, Ill.), Marianne Glaziner (SO, Terre Haute, Ind.), and Mckenzie Severs (SO, Hawesville, Ky.) all completed the race within 50 second of each other, running 24:23, 24:27, and 25:00, respectively. Morgan Curry (FR, Hawesville, Ky.) finished the day for the Bearcats, finishing the race in 26:45.
Huelsman, Warthen, Stytz, Halley, Glaziner, and Severs all had season best performances, with Curry narrowly missing a season best by 23 seconds.
"The women's team as a whole competed well today. It was good to see them start to get back on track today as a group. I look forward to seeing how they compete at Taylor University in a couple of weeks," said Stoffel.
The women's cross country team will be back in action on October 24th when the team travels to Taylor University to compete at the Midwest XC Challenge.
