Women's Volleyball Struggles in Pair of Home Conference Matches

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women's volleyball team dropped a set of home conference games this weekend. The Bearcats struggled to finish in a tough five-set match against Kentucky Christian and then Saturday to 16-6, Shawnee State, in four. BU's record extended to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in RSC play.

Match 1: Kentucky Christian 3 Bearcats 2

The conference newcomer picked up their second conference win as they defeated the Bearcats in an exciting five-set thriller. The Bearcats took set one in close quarters as they beat the Knights, 25-23. The next two sets belonged to KCU as they outhit the Bearcats for scores of 25-22 in both games. BU battled to send the match into a fifth set as set four went in favor of BU, 25-23. Despite hitting .250 in set five, untimely errors sealed the loss, 18-16.

Kendyn Syfert led with 17 kills and 17 digs while Francisca Sousa added 13 kills on 27 chances. Cheaney Archer added 40 assists in her role along with seven digs and three service aces.

Match 2: Shawnee State 3 Bearcats 1

Looking to bounce back from the loss to KCU, the Bearcats hosted Shawnee State in their next conference matchup. The Bearcats came out emphatic in set one hitting .222 to take the win 25-17. BU went in the opposite direction as they struggled with errors. All momentum went in the Bears favor as they swept the next three sets with scores of 26-24, 25-15, and 25-14.

Callie Mason tallied eight kills as she led the Bearcats in attacking.

The Bearcats will travel to Beckley, WV to take on WVU Tech on Friday, Oct. 10, at 6pm.
