Bearcats Fight Mighty Oaks in Five-Set Win
OAKLAND CITY, In. – The Brescia University women’s volleyball team traveled to face the Mighty Oaks on the road in a conference division matchup. With both teams searching for their first conference win, the Bearcats came out victorious in the five-set affair.
OAKLAND CITY, In. – The Brescia University women's volleyball team traveled to face the Mighty Oaks on the road in a conference division matchup. With both teams searching for their first conference win, the Bearcats came out victorious in the five-set affair.
The Bearcats came out prepared and fired up to take their first conference win against division rival, Oakland City. BU took the first two sets with ease with scores of 25-20 and 25-15. Hitting .383 percent in the first sets, the Bearcats dropped off tremendously as the Mighty Oaks avoided the sweep in set three.
Set four belonged to Oakland City as they moved the match into a deciding fifth set. The Bearcats battled, hitting .308, to finish the set and take the match with a final set score of 16-14.
The Illinois girls in Callie Mason and Kendyn Syfert banded together with 30 kills as they led the Bearcats on the attacking front. Cheaney Archer gathered 30 assists along with 17 digs. Campbell McBride dug 23 balls, two assists, and an ace in the match. Jennifer Lee and Francisca Sousa each met attackers at the net with four blocks a piece.
The Bearcats will take on the conference newbie, Kentucky Christian, on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6pm at home.
