Bearcats Go 1-1 in Day One of the 2025 BU Classic
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women’s volleyball team kicked off the 2025 BU Classic facing Webber International and Oakland City on Friday where they split the day 1-1. The Bearcats won their five-set battle against the Warriors of WIU and lost match two in three sets to the Mighty Oaks.

Match 1: Bearcats 3 Webber International 2
The Bearcats came out firing on all cylinders as they took set one 25-13 while hitting over .400. WIU did not back down easily as the scrappy team came back to win set two 25-23 as they took advantage of BU errors. The Warriors came back again with another tough set three as the Bearcats scraped by with the 26-24 win to take the one-set advantage. Brescia struggled offensively in set four as Webber cruised to a 25-16 set four win to send this match into a deciding set. The Bearcats were able to put away the match in set five, winning 15-7 against the Warriors.
Kendyn Syfert, Chandlyr Friend, and Callie Mason all ended with double digit kills while Francisca Sousa hit over .500 in the match.
Match 2: Oakland City 3 Bearcats 0
Playing on the back-to-back, the Bearcats faced conference rival, Oakland City, in a non-conference matchup. Despite the first set being close, the Mighty Oaks walked away with the set one win, 25-22. Although improving their hitting percentage in set two, the Bearcats still struggled to put the ball down as OCU took the two-set advantage. BU ran out of steam in set three falling 25-17 as the Mighty Oaks take the match in three.
Francisca Sousa led the Bearcats with eight kills while Cheaney Archer assisted 23 times.
The Bearcats will return for day two of the classic with games at 12 and 6pm on Saturday, August 30.
