Women's Volleyball Splits Day One of Onset Invitational
FORT WAYNE, In. – The Brescia University women’s volleyball team kicked off the regular season at the Onset Invitational against St. Francis and UNOH. The Bearcats split the day as both matches took a fifth set decision.

FORT WAYNE, In. – The Brescia University women's volleyball team kicked off the regular season at the Onset Invitational against St. Francis and UNOH. The Bearcats split the day as both matches took a fifth set decision.
Match One: St. Francis 3 Bearcats 2
Kendyn Syfert got the first point of the season for the Bearcats as they kicked off the regular season. A three-point run led BU to an 11-8 lead over St. Francis as the Cougars struggled with attack errors. With the three-point advantage, the Cougars closed the gap on three back-to-back kills. Despite the close quarters, the Bearcats were able to shut down USF to win the first set, 25-20. The Cougars came back in sets two and three taking a two-game advantage over BU. Brescia refused to yield as they battled in set four to send this match to a deciding set five. These two teams were close to playing another set as the Cougars came out on top in set five with a final score of 20-18.
Sophomore, Callie Mason, led the attacking front with 16 kills while Chandlyr Friend, Francisca Sousa, and Kendyn Syfert also landed in double digits. Campbell McBride picked up 19 balls as she completes her 1,000 career digs which included her stats from Lincoln Trail College. Mason and Friend combined for 30 digs in the loss.
Match Two: Bearcats 3 UNOH 2
The Bearcats got their first win of the season in match two against the Racers as BU battles in another five-set series. BU made a statement in set one as they drilled the ball into the floor for a set score of 25-14. The Racers battled back in the next two sets taking both with a score of 25-23. BU continued to power through taking set four 25-11 and then eventually set five, 15-13, for their first win of the season.
The Bearcats continue their play in the Onset Invitational against Defiance College and Lawrence Tech, Saturday, Aug. 23, at 12:15pm and 4:30pm.
