Lady Bearcats finish 2nd at KIAC Championships
The KIAC Outdoor Conference Championships were held at Berea, KY this Saturday. This will be the final time the meet will be held here, as Berea College will be leaving the KIAC.
In the 10000m run, , Olivia Warren (JR) defended her title and won for the 3rd consecutive year with a KIAC meet record time of 43:34.0. Courtney Naas (FR) placed 2nd, a mere 24 seconds behind. In the 4X800 Relay the women placed 2nd in a school record time of 11:04.6. The team consisted of Samantha Walker (JR) Embra Hawkins (JR), Cassie King (JR) , and Jasmine Pulliam (SR).
More titles were to come as the 3,000m steeplechase followed. Samantha Walker, who won the event as a freshman, came back to win this year's event by 48 seconds. Embra Hawkins continued her breakout season by winning the 1500m in KIAC record time by running 5:09.46. The time is also a school record, besting her previous mark of 5:13.Jasmine Pulliam and Cassie King were also in the race, placing 4th and 6th respectfully. In the women's 800m, Cassie King placed 4th.
The Lady Bearcats swept the women's 5,000m run placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as Olivia Warren won the race (after winning the 10,000m earlier) with a time of 20:25. Jasmine Pulliam and Embra Hawkins were 2nd and 3rd.
The Lady Bearcats 2nd place finish in the meet is the highest placing in school history.
Head Coach, Alan Schulze, had these thoughts on the meet, "I am extremely proud of the way our teams competed and conducted themselves for this meet. What we are able to do with our group is really phenomenal. Today, we had people going above and beyond the call of duty for the betterment of the team; as a coach, there isn't much more I can ask."
