Alderton Places 2nd at National Championship
Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) competed at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship on March 4-5 in Brookings, South Dakota.
She took on the 3000m run semi-finals on March 4th, winning the second heat of a very tactical race in 10:15.10. Her heat win automatically qualified her for the 3k finals, which took place the next day.
After leading the pack for the majority of the race, Alderton kicked her way to a second place finish at the National Championship, with a new personal record and school record of 10:00.47. She also earned NAIA All-American honors for the second time in her running career.
"I'm super happy with my effort this weekend and thankful to have also seen my teammate run a fantastic race and PR. I was ranked 12th nationally going in, so to finish as runner-up means the world. I believe the best is yet to come as I approach outdoor," said Alderton.
The Owensboro native improved considerably from her initial ranking coming into the Championship, moving up from 12th to 2nd.
Alderton also placed top three in the NAIA last cross country season, placing third and earning All-American honors.
She will now turn her attention toward continuing her progression in the outdoor track & field season. The Bearcats open the 2022 outdoor season on March 18th at the Emory Invitational.
