NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview
The Brescia University men's and women's track & field teams will be represented in two events at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship in Brookings, South Dakota.
The three day championship will take place from March 3rd to the 5th. Semi-finals for events will take place on Thursday and Friday, with event finals taking place on Saturday.
60m HURDLES:
Mason Aschenbrenner (SR/Ottumwa, IA) will be competing in the 60m hurdles semi-finals on Friday, March 4th at 12:50 p.m. CT. He competes in the first heat of the event (there are four heats total). The first place finisher of each heat will automatically qualify for finals, along with the next four fastest times.
"Following up last year's national campaign with a great start to this one promises a greater peak to my progression. I'm excited to see how my success in the 60m hurdles translates into greater placement for the outdoor 110's and a shot at a national title," said Aschenbrenner.
Aschenbrenner sprints into the National Championship coming off of a 14th place finish at the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. He has broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles multiple times this season, improving it from 8.43 seconds to 8.25 seconds.
He also holds the indoor school record in the 4x400m relay.
The Iowa native finished the season ranked 25th in the nation in the hurdles, and looks to improve on his seeding at the Championship.
3,000m RUN:
Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) will be competing in the 3,000m run semi-finals on Friday, March 4th at 3:55 p.m. CT. She will be competing in the second heat of the event. The top four finishers from each semi-final of the 3k will qualify for finals, along with the next four fastest times.
"I feel confident and strong going into this weekend because I've done all that I can to prepare. As always, I'm so thankful for the support of my family, coaches, and teammates," said Alderton. "I dont like to place a lot of pressure on myself, so my only goal is to glorify God by giving it all that I've got."
Alderton heads into the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship coming off a third place finish at the NAIA Cross Country Championship and a record breaking indoor season. She set new school records in the 1,000m, mile, 3,000m, 5,000m, and the 4x400m relay.
She finished the season by qualifying for the Indoor Championship in four events: the 1,000m, mile, 3,000m, and 5,000m, which gave her plenty of options to choose what she wanted to compete in at Nationals.
She will only be competing in the 3,000m at Nationals, an event that she is currently placed 12th in the nation in.
