Brescia Competes at Tiger Paw Invite
The Brescia women's track & field team competed at the Tiger Paw Invite in Louisville, Kentucky on January 28th. The team broke numerous school records, as well as having one student-athlete qualify for the NAIA National Championship.

Distance:
In the 600m run, Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) won her heat with a new school record of 1:49.65. Nicholas' time currently ranks her first in the River States Conference (RSC) in the event.
Nicholas also competed in the 800m, also winning her heat with a time of 2:35.16. Nicholas is currently ranked third in the RSC in the 800m Mckenzie Severs (JR/Hawesville, KY) also competed in the 800m, running a time of 3:13.76.
Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI) placed top ten in the mile, finishing the race in 5:54.04. Abagale Huelsman (JR/Fort Branch, IN) placed 20th in the race, running 6:07.70.
Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) and Morgan Curry (SO/Hawesville, KY) also competed in the mile, running 7:00.78 and 7:53.42, respectively.
In the 3000m run, Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) qualified for the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship, hitting an NAIA 'A' standard with a time of 10:07.85. She is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the event.
Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH) and Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) also competed in the 3k, running 12:19.01 and 12:43.93, respectively.
Jumps:
Jordyn Cardwell (FR/Union, KY) set a new school record in high jump, clearing a height of 1.50m to earn fourth place overall. Jada Saunders (JR/Louisville, KY) also competed in high jump, clearing 1.35m.
Cardwell also set a new school record in long jump, jumping a distance of 5.27m and placing seventh. Carmela Shorkey, Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY), Mallory Toler (SR/Rockport, IN), Abigail Burgett (SO/Dawson Springs, KY), and Alayna Petri (SO/Owensboro, KY) also competed in long jump.
In triple jump, Cardwell led the Bearcats with a sixth place finish of 10.24m. Stytz and Petri also competed in triple jump, jumping 8.83m and 8.82m, respectively.
Sprints:
Jeneil Morris (FR/Trinidad & Tobago) led the Bearcats in the 60m dash, finishing the race in 8.30 seconds. She beat her own school record in the event.
Abigail Burgett also competed in the 60m, running 8.53 seconds.
In the 60m hurdle finals, Jordyn Cardwell broke her own school record with a time of 10.05 seconds. She is currently tied for fifth in the RSC in the event. Jada Saunders also competed in the 60m hurdles, running 10.84 seconds.
Morris broke her own school record for the second time at the meet in the 200m dash, running 28.16 seconds. Ashaunte Watts (SO/Radcliff, KY) and Saunders also raced the 200m, running 29.24 and 29.36 seconds, respectively.
Throws:
Ashby Greenwell (FR/Henderson, KY) broke her own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 10.24m. Greenwell has set a new school record in the event in her first two attempts at the event.
The Bearcats will be back in action on February 4th at the Team RidgeRunners Invitational in Logan, Ohio.
