Weather Dampens Start of Golf Spring Season
The BU Men and Women's Golf Teams got off to a soggy start in West Point MS as they both began their Spring seasons at Old Waverly Golf course in the Blue Mountain Classic. The event was shortened due to poor weather and course conditions proved to be tough for the Bearcats in the opening event of the season. Coach Cox says, "I like some of the things we are doing as a team right now, we are hitting the ball decent for the first event. However for us to improve we have to get better on and around the greens for us to be competitive for both teams for certain".
The Lady Bearcats finished 6th among the 8 team field. They were led by sophomore Meredith Mayes, who finished 17th overall shooting an 85. "Meredith hit the ball well enough to finish in the top five, however adapting to the tricky greens at Old Waverly was a tall task for her", shared Coach Cox. Brooklyn Spicer finished T-24 at 89, Lindsey Whitfill T40 at 106, Laurel Hotchkiss at T41 with a 107, and Paige Pollock finished with a 116.
The Men's team finished 9th out of 11 and were led by sophomore Ryan Howard with a tie for 19th place with scores of 76/39. " Ryan is starting to find his way as a collegiate player and is the better player for us right now. We just have to trim a shot or two here and there, once we do that he will be challenging a lot of leaderboards for sure". Junior Parker Brown finished T-39 with 76/42, freshman Aidan Cassidy finished T-45 with 84/39, Senior Daniel Steele finished T-47 with 88/36 and Dakota jones finished 57th with 85/48 as they played 27 holes in this event.
Both teams have two weeks to regroup and prepare for their next event as we travel to Union college's event in Somerset at Woodson Bend on the 23/24th of the month.
