Softball Starts Season 1-3
HENDERSON, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team opened their weekend with two doubleheaders against UHSP and Spring Arbor. The Bearcats came out of the weekend 1-3 to match their record thus far in the season.

Game 1: UHSP 3 Bearcats 2
The Eutectics opened up the scoring first with three runs in the first inning. With one out in the bottom of the third, Addy Harris doubled to left center to get into scoring position where she then advanced to third on a ground ball. Isabelle Hayes showed good discipline at the plate as she walked to put runners on the corners for BU. A single through the left side from Emmie Bullington scored the first run for BU as Harris scored from third. Emma Kate Elrod extended the inning on her RBI double to left center as BU got within one of the UHSP lead.
Both teams could not find the offense again as the Eutectics took game one, 3-2. Addy Harris was 2-3 at the plate with two doubles and a run. Emma Kate Elrod also tallied two doubles and an RBI while Emmie Bullington went 3-3 and an RBI in her Brescia debut. Bullington also went the distance in the circle, pitching all seven innings while allowing three runs.
Game 2: Bearcats 11 UHSP 3
The Bearcats used two big innings in game two of the doubleheader. The Eutectics did score first with one run in the opening frame. Isabelle Hayes tied it up with her home run to dead center field. Another long ball by Katy Fisher led to a stand up double by the sophomore. With runners on second and third, Savannah Jones pulled a ball through the right side as she plates a run. Emma Kate Elrod stayed hot in the second matchup of the day with the second home run of the inning, giving the Bearcats a 5-1 advantage. UHSP cut the lead to two in the top of the sixth on a double and a single to right field. The sixth inning was the final frame of the game as BU plated six runs to win it in run rule fashion.
Emma Kate Elrod went 3-5 at the plate with two home runs, one that included the game winner, along with six RBIs. Savannah Jones went 3-4 from the left side of the plate with two runs and two RBIs herself.
The Bearcats would fall in both games against Spring Arbor on Saturday with final scores of 7-1 and 10-2. Emma Kate Elrod hit her third home run in two games as she signified the only run for the Bearcats in game one. Errors killed BU defensively in game two as they totaled eight of them allowing 10 runs for the Cougars.
The Bearcats will host Taylor University for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb 21 at 1pm and 3pm CT.
