Bearcats Take Two From The Golden Bears of WVU Tech
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team take two conference games as they defeat WVU Tech 6-2 and 1-0. The Bearcats extend their record to 7-16 overall and 5-11 in River States Conference play.
The Golden Bears would strike early in game one as back-to-back hits would plate their first run. Raini Gerometta would keep WVU scoreless until the fourth inning as an error gives up two bases for the Golden Bears' leadoff hitter. A single through the middle would give the Golden Bears the 2-0 advantage as the Bearcats look to add their first runs. A five-run fourth inning would be the catalyst for this Bearcat win as Elizabeth Richey would walk to start the inning. A costly error by the WVU third baseman would give Zoe Smithson a free pass to first as Richey speeds around the bases to get herself within 60 feet of home plate. Kaylyn Sowders would drive a ball up the middle to score Richey from third as the Bearcats plate their first run of the game. Kaylee Harris would catch the defense on their heels as she lays down a bunt to score Katelyn Dykes from third who pinch ran for Smithson. With the score knotted at two, Hayden Pulliam would single up the middle to give the Bearcats the lead, 3-2. Lindsey Peyton would continue the rally as she singled to right field pushing two more across for BU.
The Bearcats would plate their sixth and final run in the bottom of the sixth inning as a throwing error would move Mikah Goeppner to third who singled earlier in the inning. Hayden Pulliam would grab her second RBI of the game as she drives in Goeppner from third on a deep ground ball to the shortstop. The Bearcats would take game one of the doubleheader as Raini Gerometta would throw her 4th complete game of the year to extend her record in the circle to 5-5.
A pitchers' duel would commence in game two as the Bearcats were only able to push one across in the bottom of the second inning. Mikah Goeppner would double to the fence in centerfield to record her second hit of the day. Kaley Harris would move Goeppner over to third on ground out to the pitcher. Goeppner would then score on a passed ball for the one and only run of the game by both teams. Hannah Hailey would earn her first win in the circle as she pitches her first complete game this season.
