Bearcats’ Dominating Offense Cuts Down the Mighty Oaks
OWENSBORO, Ky – The Brescia University softball team picked up a pair of wins against conference foe, Oakland City, Thursday night in chase of a .500 record. The Bearcats extend their record to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in River States Conference play.
Despite moving these set of conference games up a day, the Lady Bearcats were locked and loaded for this mid-week match up. The first game started off slow for both sides until the Bearcats put up a 4-run inning. Hannah Hailey would lead off the inning with a walk and then pushed over to second on the sacrifice bunt by Mikah Goeppner. Kaley Harris would reach on an error by the right fielder. With runners on second and third, Lindsey Peyton would single up the middle to score two to give BU the 1-0 advantage. Peyton would steal second to get herself into scoring position for her twin counterpart, Courtney Peyton. Courtney would double to right-centerfield to score two more for the Lady Bearcats. A bad throw by the leftfielder would send Courtney Peyton all the way around the bases for an inside the park home run. With the 4-0 lead over the Mighty Oaks, the Bearcats would plate one more as Elizabeth Richey would score Lindsey Peyton who reached earlier on a fielder's choice. Raini Gerometta would keep Oakland City to just two runs as she pitches another complete game and give the Bearcats the win, 5-2.
The Mighty Oaks would seem to dial the offense up in game two as they come out swinging early in the first inning as they jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Bearcats were unfazed as the offense rallied for 8 runs in the bottom of the third inning. The BU defense played a large role in the fourth inning as an Oakland City batter lined out to shortstop Courtney Peyton who then picked off the OCU runner at third base as Elizabeth Richey then threw to second base to pick off the last OCU player for a Bearcat triple play. The BU offense did not let up as they drive three more runs across the plate for a walk-off run rule in five innings. Hannah Hailey kept the Mighty Oaks to just three runs in the first inning for her first complete game of the season. She extends her record to 1-4 in the circle.
