Softball is Back! Preview 2020
The Brescia University softball team is set to open their 2020 play this Friday at home against Bethel University. First pitch is at 3:30pm with the second game of the double header following completion of the first game. All home games are played at Kamuf Park.
When the pre-season poll for the River States Conference was announced in early January the Lady Bearcats found extra inspiration to prove the coaches wrong after being voted to finish seventh. After failing to qualify for the RSC tournament the last two seasons, Head Coach Traci Smith is looking for her team to rise to the challenge and prove that they're better than their pre-season spot.
The Lady Bearcats are looking at the 2020 season as taking one day and one game at a time. The focus is tackling the challenge of today before moving on to the next. Coach Smith believe that this new focus will give her team an edge in the regular season as they move towards conference play.
For the first time in Coach Smith's 14-year tenure as head coach, the Lady Bearcats will not play a conference game until the end of March. This unfamiliar extra time gives the team an opportunity to work out the early season kinks and become aquainted with how they will play together and address areas of improvement before facing conference opponents.
The Lady Bearcats return virtually all their starters, including both the number one and number two pitchers, as well as key defensive players in the field. A strong freshman class adding to these returners will give Brescia the push that Coach Smith is looking for.
Important Dates to know:
- February 14th is opening day for the Lady Bearcats at Kamuf Park
- March 24th is the first conference game of the year at Kamuf Park
- April 18th is the last home game of the season at Kamuf Park
