Women's Cross Country Takes 1st in Bearcat Opener; Men's Team Takes 3rd
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men’s and women’s cross-country teams opened their season hosting the Bearcat Opener at Yellow Creek Park this past Friday. The women had an astonishing day sweeping the top five spots to take first place. The men placed a close third to end the meet.

Freshman Jamie Gawthrop ran to victory at the top of the leaderboard as she finished first with a time of 19:56. 34. Closely behind was Mallory Wilson with a time of 21:02.23 and Carmela Shorkey with a time of 22:58.97 to take the second and third spots. Faith Mpassy finished fifth with a time of 24:54:.56 to round out the top five. Lexus McMurray finished in 13th with a time of 32:37.66 to end the women's 5k.
On the men's side, Matthew Parsons finished a close third with a time of 17:47.75 while Gerrick Sheffer finished seventh with a time of 18:04.25. Brody Kurz and Nicholas Greer rounded out the men's side in 13th and 14th place, respectfully.
Both teams will head to the Larry Young Invitational in Columbia, MO hosted by Columbia College on Friday, Sep. 20th.
