Men's Volleyball Takes One Set in the Loss to Cumberland (TN)

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men's volleyball team took on Mid-South foe Cumberland (TN) for more conference action. The Bearcats, despite winning set on, fell Wednesday night after the Phoenix swept the next three sets to take the match. The Bearcats extended their record to 5-17 overall and 2-6 in MSC play.

The two teams were evenly matched in the first set as they each traded leads on the scoreboard. A four-point turnaround in the Bearcat's favor all started on a Cumberland service error. The momentum of the switch led to two kills, an ace, and an attack error by the Phoenix for BU's first lead of the night. Errors plagued the Cumberland attackers as the Bearcats take set one with a final score of 25-20.

The Phoenix came back with a vengeance in set two as they took the first four points off the board. The Bearcats hustled back to tie the score at seven apiece off Cumberland attack errors. Unfortunately, the Bearcats struggled offensively and could not catch up to the Phoenix in set two as CU takes the set, 25-20. BU struggled to find any rhythm or momentum in set three as it was all the Phoenix with a 25-16 final score.

As we head to a fourth set, the Bearcats needed to find a spark to continue the match. Mustafa Yildiz became the catalyst for the Bearcats as he got the Bearcats within two of the lead on back-to-back kills. Yildiz's efforts were not enough as the Phoenix walk away with the 25-19 set four win to take the match 3-1.

Yildiz led the Bearcats with 12 kills on 28 chances with a block assist. Tuna Konukcu followed behind with 11 kills, six digs, and two blocks.

Up next, the Bearcats head to Midway, KY this Saturday, April 6,  to take on the Eagles at 2pm CT.
