Men's Volleyball's Home Opener Preview Against (RV) Warner and (RV) Reinhardt
OWENSBORO, KY – The Brescia University men’s volleyball team will host their very first home opener in program history this coming weekend. The men are currently 0-4 in their season after a competitive tournament at #3 Park University. The Bearcats’ first home match of the weekend will be this Friday, Feb. 2nd, against receiving votes (RV) Warner University (FL). BU was originally supposed to host a tri-match this Saturday involving St. Mary of the Woods and (RV) Reinhardt (GA). Unfortunately, the Pomeroys of SMWC had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Now, the Bearcats will host just (RV) Warner (FL) this Friday at 7pm CT and (RV) Reinhardt (GA) this Saturday at 1pm CT.

After seeing their first action last weekend, the men ended up 0-4 on the weekend after facing two ranked teams. The first match on Friday was against Viterbo University, a team out of LA Crosse, WI. The Hawks finished 9-17 last year and 6-7 in conference play. The Bearcats fell in three sets but kept in contention with final set scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-18. Match two of the day was against the Morningside University Mustangs from Sioux City, IA. The Mustangs finished last season with an 8-13 record overall and a 5-5 conference record. The Bearcats fell in three sets yet again to go 0-2 in day one of the Pirate Invitational.
In Day two, the Bearcats were slated to face two ranked teams in #3 Park University and (RV) Ottawa. #3 Park showed exactly why they were ranked as they kept the match against the Bearcats to three sets going 3-0 on the weekend. The Pirates finished 27-2 last season, winning their conference outright, and making a run in the NAIA National Tournament until Benedictine University ended their season. To finish off the tournament, BU took (RV) Ottawa into five sets where the Braves found a spark for a comeback after being down two sets to the Bearcats. Ottawa finished 9-12 last season overall and 4-6 in their conference after dropping their second match in the conference championship.
Tuna Konukcu finished the weekend with 43 kills while Finn Berger assisted 64 times.
The Bearcats will face (RV) Warner this coming Friday, Feb. 2, with a time of 7pm CT for their first home game in program history. The Royals are currently sitting at 3-2 overall and are on a three-game win streak. Last season they finished 16-7 overall and a whopping 10-0 in conference play. Warner has racked up 163 kills so far this season hitting a low .147 percentage.
Saturday, Feb. 3, BU will face (RV) Reinhardt (GA) for the only game at 1pm CT. The Eagles have only played one match in the young season where they won in a four-set contest. Last season, Reinhardt finished with an overall 20-6 record and a 7-3 conference record.
