NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Preview
The Brescia University men's and women's track & field teams will be represented in three events at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The three day championship will take place from May 25th to 27th.
TRIPLE JUMP:
Jordyn Cardwell will be making her NAIA National Championship debut on May 26th in the triple jump. She competes in the third flight of the event and the top nine individuals will advance to the finals, which will also be on Thursday. The first flight of triple jump starts at 5:30 p.m. CT, with the other two flights following.
She is currently ranked 9th in the NAIA in triple jump and has ranked as high as 5th throughout the season.
"Being a freshman, I couldn't be more grateful to get this opportunity to compete and grow as an athlete. Going into this week I have been shown how to face unforseen challenges, but it could not be done without tremendous support. I'm so blessed to be here with my talented teammates and amazing coaches. I thank God for this journey and I cannot wait to leave it all on the track," said Cardwell.
5,000m RUN:
Breanna Alderton will be competing in the 5,000m run semi-finals on Thursday, May 26th at 3:55 p.m. CT. She will be competing in the first heat of the event. The top six finishers from each semi-final of the 5k will qualify for finals, along with the next four fastest times.
"I'm super excited going into this meet and if it weren't for God, I wouldn't be here. He's done great things this season and as always, I'm ready to give Him my very best. I'm thankful for this opportunity and to be here with two other teammates who work extremely hard and deserve this. I'd also like to thank my coaches, team, and family for the overwhelming support," said Alderton.
Alderton heads into the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship coming off a third place finish at the NAIA Cross Country Championship and a second place finish at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 3,000m run.
She also qualified in the 1500m, but will only be competing in the 5,000m at Nationals -- an event that she is currently seeded 6th in.
110m HURDLES:
Mason Aschenbrenner will be competing in the 110m hurdles semi-finals on Thursday, May 26th at 3:15 p.m. CT. He competes in the fourth heat of the event (there are four heats total). The first place finisher of each heat will automatically qualify for finals, along with the next four fastest times.
"Being able to compete at the highest level has allowed me to reach a greater potential in the 110m hurdles. I am one step closer to where I want to be and am incredibly excited to compete," said Aschenbrenner.
Aschenbrenner sprints into the National Championship coming off of an 11th place finish at the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship.
The Iowa native finished the season ranked 19th in the nation in the 110m hurdles, and looks to improve on his seeding at the Championship.
