Bearcats Place Second on Senior Day
The men's track and field team placed second at the Blue & Gold Twilight on April 9th, which also served as Senior Day for the Bearcats.
"It's exciting to see the men pick up several school records and PR's today as we get closer the the RSC Championship. We had some tough competition at the meet, so to place second is a good sign as we head closer to the end of the season," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
Before the meet started, the team recognized its five graduating athletes: Mikayla Chinn (SR/Newburgh, IN), Brittany Lear (SR/Madisonville, KY), Raegan Halley (SO/McLeansboro, IL), Jordan White (SR/Louisville, KY), and Devin Roche (SR/Auburn, KY).
"I'm so proud of the five athletes we have graduating and I'm grateful for everything that they have done to help re-build our program. I'm excited to see how they finish this season," said Stoffel.
Sprints & Hurdles:
Landon Holt (SR/Dawson Springs, KY) broke his own school record in the 100m dash, placing second with a time of 10.94 seconds. Colby Aschenbrenner (FR/Ottumwa, IA) also placed in the 100m, finishing fourth with a season best time of 11.51 seconds. James Wood (FR/Sacramento, KY) also ran the event, placing eighth.
The 4x100m relay team of Talon Hutto (FR/Floyds Knobs, IN), Mason Aschenbrenner (JR/Ottumwa, IA), Landon Holt, and Denilson Whitmore (JR/Murfreesboro, TN) won the race with a season best time of 43.30 seconds. Hutto, Aschenbrenner, Holt, and Whitmore set a new school record in the event.
Mason Aschenbrenner placed first in the 110m hurdles, running 15.01 seconds. Talon Hutto placed third with a time of 16.92 seconds.
Denilson Whitmore placed second in the 200m dash, running 22.57 seconds. Devin Roche and Joseph Tapia (SO/Owensboro, KY) also competed in the 200m, placing sixth and tenth.
Talon Hutto and Devin Roche competed in the 400m dash, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the 400m hurdles, Mason Aschenbrenner placed second with a time of 57.93 seconds.
Distance:
Benjamin Brown (SO/Memphis, MI) placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase, running 11:34.
Christian Leach (FR/Monroe, OH) led the Bearcats in the 800m run, placing third with a time of 2:13.52 on the windy day. Brown, Tyler Walz (SO/Hawesville, KY), and Caleb Sandefur (FR/Hartford, KY) all competed in the event as well.
Christian Leach also led the Bearcats in the 1500m run, placing second with a time of 4:23. Jeremy White-Zavala (FR/Beaver Dam, KY) also placed in the event, running 4:59. Caleb Sandefur, Keitel McCoy (FR/Douglasville, GA), James Barrow (SO/Elizabethtown, KY), Wes Wheatley (SO/Hawesville, KY), and Draven Stewart (FR/Leitchfield, KY) all competed in the 1500m as well.
In the 5,000m run, James Barrow and Draven Stewart placed seventh and eighth.
Jumps:
In high jump, Talon Hutto placed second with a best jump of 1.73m.
Landon Holt broke his own school record in long jump, jumping 6.91m and placing fourth. Ethan Carpenter (SO/Rogers, AR), Joseph Craig, Benjamin Brown, Joseph Tapia, and James Wood all competed in long jump as well.
Ethan Carpenter and Joseph Craig competed in triple jump, placing third and fifth. Carpenter's jump of 12.47m set a new school record.
Throws:
Andrew Parker (JR/Louisville, KY) competed in the hammer throw, throwing 35.44m and placing fifth.
Parker also placed second in javelin, throwing a PR of 38.17m.
The Bearcats will be back in action on April 13th in a dual meet against Kentucky Wesleyan.
