Bearcats Finish Fourth at Bearcat Classic
The Brescia men's track & field team hosted the Bearcat Classic on Saturday, March 20th, placing fourth out of the eight team field.
"Today was a big day for Brescia track and field. It was the first big outdoor invitational that we hosted, and we had several positives to take away from it," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
"We had several PR's set and school records broken today, including Mason Aschenbrenner (JR/Ottumwa, IA) reaching an NAIA National Championship qualifying standard," said Stoffel.
Sprints & Hurdles:
The sprints events kicked off with the 4x100m relay team of Talon Hutto (FR/Floyds Knobs, IN), Joseph Craig (SO/Benton, IL), Landon Holt (SR/Dawson Springs, KY), and Mason Aschenbrenner finishing second with a time of 44.52.
Next, Aschenbrenner ran an NAIA National Championship qualifying standard in the 110m hurdles, running a new school record of 14.83 seconds. His time currently ranks him third in the nation.
Hutto also competed in the 110m hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 17.42 seconds.
In the 400m dash, Devin Roche (SR/Auburn, KY) placed eighth with a time of 58.65. In the 100m dash, Joseph Craig and James Wood (FR/Sacramento, KY) finished 14th and 16th, respectively.
In the 400m hurdles, Aschenbrenner and Hutto placed second and fourth, respectively.
Ethan Pierce (FR/Leitchfield, KY) won his heat of the 200m dash, placing tenth overall with a time of 24.95 seconds. Devin Roche and Joseph Tapia (SO/Owensboro, KY) also competed in the 200m dash, placing 13th and 16th, respectively.
Distance:
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Charlie McCallister (SO/Murray, KY) finished second with a time of 12:50.
Caleb Sandefur (FR/Hartford, KY) was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line in the 1500m run, finishing the race in 4:59. James Barrow (SO/Elizabethtown, KY), Wes Wheatley (SO/Hawesville, KY), and Draven Stewart (FR/Leitchfield, KY) also competed in the 1500m, placing 15-17th, respectively.
Sandefur also raced in the 800m run, placing 17th.
Jumps:
In long jump, Landon Holt finished fourth with a best jump of 6.40m. Joseph Craig also competed in long jump, jumping 5.61m and placing tenth.
Ethan Carpenter (SO/Rogers, AR) and Craig placed fifth and sixth in triple jump, jumping 11.62m and 11.19m, respectively.
In high jump, Talon Hutto jumped 1.68m and placed sixth.
Throws:
In discus, Andrew Parker (JR/Louisville, KY) threw 34.34m and placed fifth.
Parker also competed in shot put, placing eighth with a best throw of 11.52m.
The Bearcats will be back in action next weekend at the Margaret Simmons Invitational in Murray, Kentucky.
