Bearcats Tennis Season Opening 2022
OWENSBORO- The Brescia University men's tennis team will open their 2022 season this Saturday February 19th at Evansville Tennis Center starting at 3:30pm against the Screaming Eagles of USI.
Brescia University head coach Will Riley welcomes back 8 men's players from last season's Bearcats team. "Our men's squad consists of two seniors, three juniors, two sophomore, and three freshmen, so the pre-season has been a quick adjustment," Riley said. "The newcomers have certainly brought a new energy, but will be inexperienced. I am looking for our seniors (Danila Pyzh and Daniel Paez) to help bring the freshmen and sophomores and juniors along."
Coach Riley owns an overall record of for men and women over a 30-year career of 962 wins and 374 losses. With the start of the season and thus his 30th year coaching at the college level, he looks to improve as the season goes on. "The keys to our success will be how quickly the newcomers adjust to college tennis and can we stay healthy. Our early goals are to find chemistry in the doubles squads and to find where each player is comfortable in the singles ladder. This weekend should help us in both aspects. Play hard, stay focused and have fun, that's all I ask, everything else will come with time and match play." stated Coach Riley.
"I feel as though we have a fairly solid singles line-up and a stable, at this point, doubles line-up. USI is a pretty strong Division 2 team that is moving to Division 1 on next year so this will be a good test and measuring stick to open the season. We want to win this weekend of course, but what I hope for most is to get to play a good match so everyone can gain experience and the returners can get back into the swing."
