Men's Tennis Competes at RSC Preview
The Brescia Men's Tennis team participated in Asbury's Fall Tournament over the weekend, with each individual player taking part in a separate tournament. Kevin Larrea, Brescia's number one singles player, was put in the Purple Draw, designated to each team who played in the tournament's number one player, along with another player from Asbury, the host of the tournament. Larrea won his first round match over Sammy Diggs of Ohio Christian University 6-0, 6-1. He was then defeated by Joshua Turnquest from Asbury in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0. In the ensuing match, Larrea was beaten by Westin Jablonowski, 6-0, 6-0. Larrea took home fourth place.
In the Crimson Draw, Brescia's Fernando Diaz was defeated by Bradley Cross from IUS, 6-0. 6-0 in the first round. He then bested Alice Lloyd's Trevor Ball, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round of the back draw. In the fifth place match, Diaz lost to Brayden Williams from IUE, 6-4, 6-4, earning him a sixth place finish. In the Blue Draw, James Day was beaten by Asbury's Luiz Hartkopf, 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round. In the back draw, Day defeated Kaleb Huber from Alice Lloyd, 6-2, 6-0, and then won the fifth place match 6-3, 6-0 over Jacob Sargent from Midway. Tyler Steelman started the White Draw off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alice Lloyd's Sol Smith, then was beaten by Julian Tellez from Asbury, 6-0, 6-0. Steelman regrouped in the next round to win 6-3, 6-3 over Midway's Jake Franke, sealing third place in the draw.
In doubles, Brescia was led by Larrea/Diaz, who posted a fourth place finish. Day/Steelman came in sixth in their draw. Overall, the tournament was great for the guys to see how they stacked up against the other teams in their conference. It was key for the team to gain some experience before the spring season.
