BEARCATS UPSET IN CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS
Owensboro, Ky---The #2 seeded Brescia University Bearcats were upset Wednesday night at Kamuf Park in the River States Conference Championship Semi-Final by Oakland City, 1-0.
The first half saw the Bearcats and Mighty Oaks go back and forth within the first ten minutes. The Bearcats would control most of the possessions and limit the Mighty Oak opportunities throughout the first half. The Bearcats would post 5 corner kicks to the Mighty Oaks 0. The Brescia attack would not be able to find the net off of any of those set pieces. The Bearcats held the Mighty Oaks to 0 shots within the first half.
"We probably played one of the best defensive games of the season in terms of dominance. Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on the turnovers we created out of our pressure. They really were not able to build out at all," said Head Coach Cameron Williams.
In the second half, the Bearcats continued to assert their dominance over the Mighty Oaks, but came up empty handed. They created several chances, with the best chance hitting the inside of the post and being cleared out of bounds. There were many more chances for the Bearcats throughout the match, but never truly testing the keeper of Oakland City. The Oaks would find the net on just their second shot of the match on a free kick that saw the ball headed pass the Brescia Defense.
"We let a team hang around too long that we should have put away earlier on in the match," said Williams.
The Brescia attack would continue to create opportunities with shots going over and wide of the goal. "It was one of those nights where we created a lot, but never put anything on frame. It was, however, a great performance from our guys, and I could not have been prouder of how well they played. We finished top two in the regular season, and we will look to build upon those accomplishments heading into next season," said Williams.
