BEARCATS FALL TO #14 RIO GRANDE
Owensboro, KY--- Brescia University Men's Soccer squad fell to #14 Rio Grande 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the final regular season and conference match.
The Bearcats were limited in opportunities, but was the first team in the league to hold Rio to single digits in total shots. The game was a good defensive battle in the first half with neither team budging. The score would remained 0-0 heading into halftime.
"We were able to hang with a top ranked team for a majority of the match. For us in the first half we just kept missing that final pass going forward. We had flashes of really good moments in the first half" said head coach Cameron Williams.
In the second half, the Bearcats and Redstorm continued to battle it out for another 35 minutes until the Rio Redstorm would strike first in the 77th minute. The lone goal would hold as the Bearcats continued to try and create chances in the waning minutes of play.
"We enjoyed senior day and making sure the day was special for them. They have come along way in three years. We finished second in the league and for the first time in school history we are hosting a semi-final match in the River States Conference Tournament Championship. What an accomplishment for our program after missing out on the conference tournament eight months ago. Today the guys fought really hard albeit we were missing several starters in our line up, but like we say, next man up and we have so much to look forward to in the next two weeks" said Williams.
