OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men's basketball team earned their second win in a row after Tuesday's victory over IU Columbus, 97-84. The Bearcats improved to 5-15 overall and 5-6 in RSC play.
The Bearcats started out hot from the field with three consecutive three pointers in the first few minutes. Xavi Tirado tabbed his first points of the game with a fastbreak layup on a steal and pass from Jordan Cooke. The boys had built a 12-point lead following the 10-minute media timeout. Brescia shot 47% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc as they held a 49-37 lead at half. Linkin Lockhart popped off for 11 points and three threes while Braden Waller added 10 points and five rebounds.
Lockhart and Waller continued their scoring streak as they made the next three shots for BU. Jordan Cooke, close to double-double range, got halfway there with his 10th assist on the three made by Lockhart. Cooke started to join the scoring parade making back-to-back baskets for the Bearcats. Both teams reached a scoring drought until Tirado broke the streak and extended the BU lead to 18. The Bearcats finished the game with the lead and won over the Crimson Pride for their second win in a row.
Four Bearcats ended in double digits, Lockhart with 23, Cooke with 15 points and 12 assists, Waller with 14 and six rebounds, and Kabryen Tinson with 10 with three threes.
The Bearcats are set to host Shawnee State Saturday, Feb. 7 at 3pm in The Den.
