Men's Basketball Drops Home Match to Red Wolves
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men’s basketball team dropped their fifth conference game to IU East this past Friday with a final score of 89-72. The Bearcats record drops to 3-14 overall and 3-5 in RSC play.

Each team battled it out in the opening minutes to start this matchup. Down one, Braden Waller splashed a three pointer to give BU the lead. The bigger Red Wolves team showed their size as they opened a 10-2 run with 10 minutes to play in the first half. IU East continued their run as the Bearcats struggled from the field. BU saw a 12-point deficit going into the break with 20 minutes left to play. Jordan Cooke led the Bearcats with just nine points on 3-5 shooting.
The Red Wolves started the second half on an 8-0 run to push their lead to 20. Three consecutive made baskets from Cooke started the BU comeback as they cut the lead 14. As the Bearcats upped the pressure in the full court, it forced the Red Wolves in rushed shots and turnovers. A wide open three from Carrieun Mathis pulled BU within seven of the advantage. Dominique Morris checked into the game where he made back-to-back layups. Linkin Lockhart drove to the basket, forcing contact, as he earns a spot at the foul line for two shots. Lockhart's made free throws got the Bearcats even closer to the deficit. A foul on Cooke beyond the arc sent him to the charity stripe for three shots and a chance to close the gap. Cooke sank 2/3 shots to put the Bearcats down by three. BU struggled to score in the final four minutes as IUE ran away with the lead.
Cooke led all BU scorers with 23 points with four assists and three steals. Linkin Lockhart and Braden Waller each reached double digits in the loss.
Weather permitting, the Bearcats will travel to Terre Haute, IN to take on St. Mary of the Woods on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 5pm.
