Baseball Sweeps WVU Tech in Record Breaking Series
BECKLEY, Wv. – The Brescia University baseball team swept the Golden Bears of WVU Tech on the road in a three-game series. The Bearcats improve their record to 11-10 overall and 5-4 in River States Conference play.

Game 1: Bearcats 29 WVU Tech 14
The Bearcats broke a record in the opening game of the series, scoring the most runs in a single game in program history (since the beginning of digital stat-keeping). WVU Tech scored early as they took a six-run lead. BU answered back and then some, scoring 13 runs in the next three innings. The Golden Bears were able to push eight more runs across home plate in the bottoms of the 6th and 7th innings. Brescia poured it on with 12 more runs in the sixth and finished the game with three more in the 7th.
Six Bearcats tabbed multiple hits in the win as the Golden Bears faced six BU arms in the series opener.
Game 2: Bearcats 14 WVU Tech 13
Game two of the series needed extra innings to determine a winner. Miguel Marcos put the Bearcats up on his three-run home run to start the game. Over the next four innings, the Golden Bears built an 8-3 lead as the Bearcat bat quieted. BU tacked on nine runs to take a 13-8 with the bottom of the 9th ahead. WVU Tech took advantage of the last bats scenario, knotting the score in the bottom of the ninth. A single by Koltyn Perez scored Michael Ascensio for the winning run after keeping the Golden Bears scoreless in the bottom of the 11th.
Max Johnson and Hayden Jones combined for three doubles as Jones added two RBIs. Miguel Marcos added six runs on hit two hits, including a home run.
Game 3: Bearcats 9 WVU Tech 8
Jones picked up where he left off scoring Johnson on his single to center field. WVU Tech continued to rally the offense, scoring four in the bottom of the opening frame. The Bearcat bats continued to stay hot through the next four innings as they held an 8-4 lead. The Golden Bears refused to give up tying the score for the second consecutive game. Johnson put the Bearcats ahead for the win with his tiebreaking home run to right field.
Johnson went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs and three RBIs.
Up next, the Bearcats will host the RedStorm of Rio Grande Friday, March 20th at 1pm.
