Game 1: LSU Alexandria 5 Bearcats 1
The Generals of LSUA jumped on starting pitcher, Dylan Warda, in the first inning as they put up three early runs on five hits. LSUA continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the second as a single and two hit by pitches would load the bases. A run would push across on a fielding error for the Generals and they took an early 4-0 advantage. Warda would be replaced by Caysen Mitchell in the bottom of the third. Mitchell kept LSUA scoreless through two innings until the Generals added one more to their lead on a ground ball. The Bearcats were almost blanked until Max Johnson gave BU their first run of the game on a single to center field. Brescia could not muster up any more runs as they drop the first contest, 5-1. Max Johnson, Miguel Marcos, and Koltyn Perez each tallied one of the three hits for BU.
Game 2: #7 Loyola 10 Bearcats 9
BU bounced back offensively in the matchup against the #7 team in the nation. The Bearcats loaded the bases in the top of the first on three back-to-back singles. Hayden Jones gave BU the lead on his single down the third base line, scoring two to start the game. Braden Mundy, who has been on fire as of late, pushed two more runs across on his gap splitting double to right. Michael Ascencio added to the lead as his single, up the middle, scored Mundy from second. The Wolfpack did cut into the lead on a two-run homer as they continued to play from behind. On a wild pitch and a walk, the Bearcats were back in business with runners at second and third as Mundy came to the plate. The left-fielder found grass again on his hit through the left side. Two more runs came across for the Bearcats as they maintained a 7-2 lead.
BU added two more runs in the third, extending their lead to five over the Wolfpack. Loyola started to chip away at the lead, scoring four in the fourth inning, as they got within one of the lead. The Bearcats ran out of steam through the second half of the game as the Wolfpack walked it off in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
Hayden Jones and Braden Mundy combined for eight of the nine Bearcat runs in the game as they tabbed multiple hits.
Game 3: Louisiana Christian 4 Bearcats 0
The Bearcats totaled just one hit in the weekend finale as they played the 12-2 Louisiana Christian Wildcats. LCU scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning on bases loaded singles. The Bearcats were able to get out of the jam before more damage was done. BU struggled to square up the ball as they remained scoreless for the entirety of the match. The Wildcats pushed two more runs over the plate as they held the 4-0 lead until the end.
The Bearcats will travel to Batavia, OH to play Cincinnati-Clermont on Saturday, Feb. 21and Sunday, Feb 22.
