Bearcats Sweep IU Columbus on the Road

COLUMBUS, In. – The Brescia University baseball team extended their overall record to 17-9 and conference record to 5-7 following the three-game sweep of IU Columbus on the road. The Bearcats scored double digit runs in all three contests as the offense gears up to face Rio Grande this coming weekend.

Game 2: Bearcats 10 IUC 2

After a 17-6 mercy rule victory in game one on Friday, the Bearcats looked to sweep the series on day two. The Crimson Pride got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, taking a two-run lead. The BU offense continued to fire on all cylinders scoring five in the third inning to take a three-run advantage. Dylan Warda shut down the IUC bats as the Bearcats tacked on five more runs in the fifth inning to secure a 10-2 win. Eight Bearcats recorded a hit in the contest as Artem Logvinov, Gavin Huebner, and Bryce Gamble each combined for five RBIs.

Game 3: Bearcats 14 IUC 3

The scoring in the series finale got a late jump for both teams as the Bearcats got the offense going in the fifth inning. A wild pitch and a passed ball allowed two runs to score as BU took the lead. Despite the Crimson Pride cutting the lead in half in the bottom frame of the sixth, the Bearcats rallied to notch seven more runs in the top of the eighth. A bases loaded hit by pitch, gave the Bearcats their 10^th run of the game as a double by Logvinov cleared the base path. The final RBI came off the bat of Gamble as his ground out scored Logvinov to end the scoring.

The Bearcats will take on Rio Grande this weekend with times to be determined due to weather.
