Bat Cats Sweep Montreat at Home
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University baseball team swept the visiting Cavaliers of Montreat College at home this past weekend in a three-game series. The Bearcats took game one of the day in dramatic fashion in a 9-8 walk-off win. In the series finale, the bats exploded as BU took the 10-7 win, extending their overall record to 12-7.

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University baseball team swept the visiting Cavaliers of Montreat College at home this past weekend in a three-game series. The Bearcats took game one of the day in dramatic fashion in a 9-8 walk-off win. In the series finale, the bats exploded as BU took the 10-7 win, extending their overall record to 12-7.
Game 1: Bearcats 9 Montreat 8
BU struck first in game one with a double down the left field line by Miguel Marcos as Gavin Huebner scored from second base. With the 1-0 lead in the first, the Cavaliers matched the score and more putting up five runs in two innings to take a 5-1 lead. A bunt single by Houston Flynn scored Kyle Brown from third to start the Bearcat rally in the fourth. A few wild pitches and a throwing error by the Cavs allowed two runs to cross the plate as the Bearcats saw a one-run deficit. Bryce Gamble tied things up with a monster home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth. The Cavs put up a two-run inning in the sixth to extend their lead to two. The Bearcats continued to fight as a two-run shot by Marcos tied the ball game up for the second time. Lastly, in the bottom of the seventh, Houston Flynn called game with a two-out single to push across the game winning run.
The Bearcats popped off with 10 hits as Miguel Marcos led the way with three hits and three RBIs in four at-bats. Cayden Crabtree got the win on the bump for his first victory of the year.
Game 2: Bearcats 10 Montreat 7
The Bearcats carried their momentum into the series finale where they put up 10 runs on 11 hits. Gavin Huebner stayed hot in this series as his double down the third base line brought in two runs for the Bearcats. A wild pitch would score the Bearcats' third run of the inning as they took the 3-0 advantage. Despite the Cavs cutting the lead to two in the third, BU put up a six-run inning going up 9-1 early in the game. Montreat worked their way within three of the BU lead in the fifth as Chase Christie drove in the insurance run for the Bearcats on a bases loaded single.
Christian Pinson shut down the Cavs in his inning of work to get his first save of the year. Brian Gonzalez earned the win on the bump to extend his record to 3-1.
The Bearcats are slated to travel to Frankfort, KY this coming Wednesday, Mar. 19, to take on Kentucky State with the time to be determined.
