Huebner, Franey Receive All-Conference Awards; 10 Bearcats Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The 2024 All-River States Conference Baseball Teams & Awards were announced Thursday evening during an awards ceremony at VA Memorial Stadium on the opening day of the RSC Baseball Championship. The 12 RSC baseball head coaches voted on the all-conference awards. 

The All-RSC First, Second, & Third Teams were selected this year along with the RSC Baseball Player, Pitcher, Freshman, and Coach of the Year. Also recognized were the RSC Gold Glove Team, the RSC Baseball Champions of Character Team, and the RSC Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team. The All-RSC First Team recognized 17 players, while the All-RSC Second & Third Teams honored 18 players each. The RSC Gold Glove Team recognized 10 total players with a tie in the voting at second base. The RSC Baseball Champions of Character Team featured one member from each team, as nominated by their head coach, for best displaying the NAIA's five-character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. The RSC Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team honored those with a 3.25 GPA or higher who have been at their school for at least two semesters. 

Gavin Huebner was named to the All-RSC First Team and the All-RSC Gold Glove Team both as a second baseman. The junior transfer held an impressive .394 batting average with four homeruns, 32 RBIs, 42 runs, and 18 stolen bases. As a middle infielder, Huebner held a .971 fielding percentage with 147 putouts in 205 chances. Along with his other awards, Huebner also kept the numbers in the classroom as he lands on the Scholar-Athlete Team. 

Right-handed pitcher, Preston Franey, was named to the Champion of Character Team. The senior hurler held a record of 4-6 in 16 appearances with 30 strikeouts and a 5.07 ERA. 

Eight other Bearcats were named to the Scholar-Athlete Team: Cole Troutman, Colin Garrett, Gavin Reames, Jake Frames, Mikey Clements, Joshua Martini, and Thomas Clark.
