OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University baseball team battled with the Cougars of IU Kokomo in a game that seemed to last forever. The stalemate came to an end in the 11th inning in favor of the Cougars as they pulled away with the 6-4 lead to take game one of the series. The Bearcats extended their record to 12-24 overall and 6-10 in conference play.
The Bearcat's first runs came in the first inning as Jonathon Foti doubled to left center to score Demarco Miller from second base. A triple from Bryce Gamble gave BU their second run as Foti crosses the plate on the hit. A costly overthrow by the Cougars' center fielder sent Miller home after the tag up from second base on the play. With the 3-0 lead, the Cougars found some momentum as they scored four unearned runs to take the advantage over the Bearcats. Foti continued to be hot with the bat as a deep ground out to shortstop would score another RBI to knot the score at four apiece. A pitching duel commenced as both teams remained scoreless going into the extra frames. Kokomo broke through in the top of the 11th with a two-run homerun to take the two-run lead.
Unfortunately, the Bearcats could not match in the bottom of the frame as the Cougars take game one of the series. Josh Martini grabs his first loss on the mound despite hit three innings of no-hit ball.
The Bearcats resume the series at Kamuf Park with a doubleheader beginning at 1pm CT.
