Huebner Heroics as the Bearcats Grab the Sweep Over Harris-Stowe
OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Brescia University baseball team earned their first sweep of the season as they took two games away from the visiting Harris-Stowe Hornets. The bats blistered in game one as the Bearcats put up 12 hits and 12 runs to take the win, 12-5. Game two, however, was won in a more dramatic fashion as it came down to a walk-off homerun. The Bearcats extended their overall record to 7-17 on the year following the sweep.

The bats blistered in game one as the Bearcats put up 12 hits and 12 runs to take the win, 12-5. Game two, however, was won in a more dramatic fashion as it came down to a walk-off homerun. The Bearcats extended their overall record to 7-17 on the year following the sweep.
Game 1: Bearcats 12, Hornets 5
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Demarco Miller singled through the left side. After back-to-back stolen bases from Miller, Gavin Huebner drove him in on his double to right center. Josh Cossit switched places with Huebner on his double to right center as BU took the early 2-0 lead. A solo shot for the Hornets in the top of the third cut the Bearcat lead in half as Gavin Reames shut the Hornets down for the rest of the inning on the mound. The Bat Cats got the run back in bottom frame of the third as Hugo Benoit got an RBI single to score Mikey Clements from third.
Camden Brothers relieved Reames in the fourth as a leadoff double for Harris-Stowe gave the Hornets some momentum. Three fielding errors gave the Hornets three runs as they took their only lead of the game. The BU bats never stopped as Clements hit a solo shot over the left field fence to knot the score at four apiece. A sacrifice bunt by Darian Pretorious pushed Cason Troutman across the plate as the Bearcats regained the lead.
Brothers continued his work on the mound as a three up, three down inning put the bats back in the Bearcat's hands. The offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth as the Bearcats rallied for six runs to take the 12-4 lead. Josh Martini finished the game on the mound for the Bearcats as he only allowed one run on one hit and three walks.
Almost every Bearcats touched the bases this game as they put up a total of 12 hits for 12 runs.
Game 2: Bearcats 8, Hornets 7
This high scoring affair came down to the final frame as both teams battled in the box. The Bearcats would score first in the first frame as a Clements single scored Huebner from second. The Hornets answered back in the second inning on a double to right field, scoring the previously walked batter from first. BU continued to fight as they took the lead once more off a Miller double to left center. Harris-Stowe refused to back down as they put up four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead. BU continued to stride for the lead as they tied the Hornets on a double, sacrifice fly, and a fielding error. Cason Troutman would replace Brody Niebrugge on the mound and keep the Hornets scoreless in the fourth.
A single to right field for the Bearcats gave them the lead as Jonathan Foti singled to push Bryce Gamble across the plate. Harris-Stowe pushed two more runs around the bases as they took the 7-6 lead in the fifth. After tying it up for the third time this game, the Bearcats had just half an inning left to take the win. Gavin Huebner took the mound for the first time this season mid-way through the seventh grabbing the final two outs to send the Bearcats back to the dugout. With the top of the lineup due up and now one out, Gavin Huebner called game on his first pitch nuke over the left field fence to walk it off for BU.
Huebner would get his first win on the mound and first homerun of the year.
Next up, the Bearcats head to Circleville, OH for a conference matchup against the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian this Friday and Saturday.
