Bearcats Outlast Tigers
Five Brescia University pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the Bearcats to a 1-0 win at Campbellsville University Tuesday.
It was the first 1-0 win for Brescia since March 30, 2012, when the Bearcats beat Oakland City.
A second inning run proved to be the only one in the contest. Juan Guzman reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second base on a throwing error by Campbellsville. Kendall Kortz pinch ran and advanced to third with good baserunning on a dirtball read and scored on another Campbellsville error. Then the Bearcat pitchers went to work.
Tres Corrigan pitched the first three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. John Clements and Joshua Martini added a pair of hitless innings. Michael Barrow pitched three innings of hitless baseball to pick up his first win of the season. Preston Franey gave up two hits in the ninth but closed the door to notch his second save of the year. Cameron Dean had two of Brescia's three hits and added a stolen base.
The Bearcat defense continued its improvement over 2021 with an errorless game in the field. Brescia's fielding percentage is .990 in their wins and .931 in their losses.
Brescia improved to 7-18-1, matching its win total from 2021. The win at Campbellsville snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Tigers dating back to the 2005 season and was also the first road win of the season for the Bearcats. Brescia (0-9 RSC) will look for their first River States Conference win of the season when they travel to Ohio Christian University (5-16, 1-8) for a three-game series. The Bearcats are scheduled to play two games Friday and one game Saturday.
