Bearcats Take Conference Series from Golden Bears
The Bearcats baseball team traveled to Beckley, WV over the weekend to take on WVU Tech in a three-game series. The Bearcasts came away with a 2-1 series win.
Game 1:
Eric Silvy threw a shutout to lead the Bearcats past WV Tech on Saturday in game one, throwing 9 innings giving up just 2 walks and striking out 7. The Bearcats carried a slim 2-0 lead into the eighth inning when the offense added some insurance scoring 3 runs in the top half. The offense had 8 hits and 5 RBI with Chase McLaren leading the charge, going 3-4 with 3 RBI of his own.
Game 2:
The Bearcats offense carried them to a win in Game Two, 7-5. The offense had ten hits but, it was Mark Liberato's turn to lead the offense to success going 3-4 with 4 RBI. Liberato had a single, double, and triple, with Chase McLaren and Clay Druin each hitting solo home runs to put the game away. It was a battle going into the fifth inning with the game being tied at 4-4 when Chase McLaren smashed his second home run of the spring to put the Bearcats ahead late. Preston Hendershot earned the win on the mound throwing 3.1 innings and giving up just one run on one hit. John Benevolent earned his first save of the season striking out the only two batters that he faced.
Game 3:
A Bearcats sweep unfortunately fell short losing game three 11-6. The Bearcats fought back throughout the game but gave up runs in each of the first five innings proving to be too much to come all the way back from. Five of the Bearcat hitters produced multi-hit games with home-runs by Clay Druin and Wyatt Griskey. Clay Druin went 4-5 with 1 R and 3 RBI of his own.
