Baseball Season Preview
The Brescia baseball team begins its season on this coming Saturday, February 1, in a double-header on the road against Bethel University.
Brescia was voted eighth in the River States Conference Preseason Poll, but Head Coach Jon Herbig has higher expectations.
"Our expectations are high for this Spring season. The goals we have set for ourselves are mostly process-oriented goals because we believe that if we are staying true to our standards and staying process-focused, the results will take care of themselves," said Herbig.
"We had a team goal last season to qualify for the conference tournament, which we fell short of, so this season, as we work our way through the Spring schedule, the conference tournament will be the one thing we will definitely have our sights on," Herbig explained.
Important dates to know:
- The Bearcats compete it a double-header to open the season on February 1 against Bethel University.
- The team will compete in its home opener on February 21 against Spring Arbor University at 12:00 p.m., with a second game following.
- Brescia will open River States Conference play on February 28 at home against Point Park University at 2:00 p.m., with a second game following.

While Herbig emphasized the importance of River States Conference contests, he also thinks the team can benefit from its non-conference schedule.
"These first games against Bethel will be important for us to put our feet under us and break the ice, so to speak," said Herbig. "Another non-conference highlight will be against Spring Arbor University. I'm really looking forward to it, first of because its our home opener, but it will also mean a lot to me because Spring Arbor is my alma mater and their head coach, Ryan Marken, is a good friend and a former teammate."
The young Bearcats team graduated nine seniors last season, but that doesn't discourage Herbig from thinking about the current team's potential. "We are a completely different team going into 2020, but I do believe that the ceiling is higher for this group in every way. There is a determination in the mentality our guys have embraced and I really can't wait to get into competition," said Herbig.
The Bearcats take the field on the road on February 1 against Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee at 12:00 p.m.
