Bearcats Win Series
The Brescia University Baseball team took 3 of 4 in their latest series against Spring Arbor (MI) The bearcats started with a win in the first game by a score of 7-6, starting the game on the mound was John Clements, who threw four innings only allowing two earned runs and striking out five. On the offensive, Yonnelle Firebrace and Alex Pennes led the way with two hits apiece. The team combined for six RBIs, on eight hits, and stole two bases in this game. At the finish it was Matthew Crittenden who got the win as he threw the top of the 8th giving up one hit and striking out one. In the bottom of the 8th Yonnelle Firebrace found himself up in a clutch situation and walked the game off with a single to left field.
In game two of the series the Bearcats won again by a score of 5-4. Starting on the mound for the Bearcats was Tyler Milby who threw a good game giving Brescia a chance for victory. He went six innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. The bearcats offense was led by Alex Pennes who had three of the team's eight hits as well as driving in two runs. Chase McLaren was the winning pitcher after coming in for the 7th and tackling an inning of work. The Bearcats came up in the bottom of the inning and finished with a walk-off as the result of a defensive error on a hard hit ball by Rafael Ballenilla.
In game three of the series the pitching was led by a strong performance from the bullpen. Brice Shofner and Hunter Canada combined for 5.1 innings allowing only four runs, Canada struck out four in his four innings of work. The offense gave a fight scoring seven runs on nine hits. Three of the runs came from two hits by Alex Pennes and Omar Yepez also added two hits in the effort. Bearcats fell in this one 11-7
In the final game of the series against Spring Arbor (MI), the bearcats found a way to win again in a wild way. Nate Harris led the offense in this one with a clutch double late as well as driving in two runs, Alejandro Hernandez, Omar Yepez, and Zach Johnson also drove in an RBI apiece. On the mound Manning Webb threw a great one; keeping the Bearcats in the fight for six innings and holding the Spring Arbor offense to four runs. Matthew Crittenden got the win again for the second time in two days, coming in late in the 7th and putting up a zero. The Bearcats took advantage as home team yet again and walked off with the win for the 3rd time in the series.
